Welcome

The complete team of the Electromagnetics research group would like to welcome you to these web pages.

The mission of our group is to conduct cutting-edge research and provide top-class academic courses on the fundamentals of electromagnetic fields and their applications in Electrical and Applied Physics Engineering. Our current research areas include the computational solutions of Maxwell's equations for large-scale and intricate simulation geometries, the innovative design of advanced active antenna systems, and the detailed characterization of radio wave propagation. In addition, we investigate essential topics such as electromagnetic compatibility, signal/power integrity, and system-technology co-optimization techniques. Furthermore, we emphasize the importance of validating and testing our findings through cutting-edge (over-the-air) methodologies to ensure the robustness and reliability of our research outcomes.

Our expertise encompasses:

For this, we collaborate within different research and industrial projects with other leading universities, research institutions and industrial partners, at both national and international level. Furthermore, we have all research facilities available to support our research results by experimental and computational validation.

Originally founded in 1964 by Prof. Jean Van Bladel, the Electromagnetics group has extended its strong theoretical foundations with more application-driven research under the impulse of Prof. Daniël De Zutter, who led the team for over 20 years, up to his retirement in February 2017. The group is now an integral part of IDLab, and as such affiliated to imec. These strong connections provide exciting opportunities for cross-fertilization and for the initiation of multi-disciplinary research initiatives.

We see our contributions to excellent academic education in Electromagnetics at both the Bachelor and Master level as our top priority. Therefore, we offer a wide range of courses to form the next generation of Applied Physics and Electrical Engineers.
